Customer Reviews about Asbury Park Police Department:

  • These guys are great and really care about the neighborhood. Given the challenges of the west side and the influx of out of towners and the challenges of having tons of bars in the neighborhood, these guys are terrific. They care about making this a safer place to live.

Here's my story: I was making a right-hand turn into an intersection, where there was a stop sign. As I was making a right-hand turn, I made a quick stop, a cessation of movement, albeit a quick one, while of course using my indicator. As I was making my right-hand turn, I noticed a cop car about 3-5 cars down from the intersecting street I was making a right-hand turn onto. As I quickly stopped, I inched forward quickly again, because there was a huge van hindering my view for oncoming traffic. As I made my right-hand turn, I noticed a second cop car, parked on the opposite side of the street, facing oncoming traffic; it was faced the wrong way. Shortly after the small bridge, I signaled to make a left-hand turn, and as I signaled, I noticed the cop car on the side of the van which blocked my view, speeding up quickly towards me. As soon, as I made my left-hand turn, I saw the cop car putting on the lights, and I pulled over. The officer, asked me all sorts of unnecessary questions, of which I answered straight-forward, simply because I was scared. I did not know what I did wrong. He asked where I was going, where I was coming from, what my offense was. As soon as he went to his car, I noticed the other police car, the one which was parked on the opposite side of the road facing oncoming traffic on the other street, which pulled parallel to me, but once again, on the opposite side of the street, facing oncoming traffic. I was told that I failed to make a stop at the stop sign. The problem was, that I stopped at the white stop bar, just a little bit above the stop sign; it was a quick stop, but yes, I did stop. I even inched forward and noticed the other cop car parked on the opposite side of the road. So I received the ticket with my supposed infraction; a fine, along with 2 points. He also told me that he reviewed his camera, and saw that I did not stop at the stop sign. How in the world, did his camera catch me not stopping at the stop sign, mean while, his car was parked at least 3-5 cars behind the huge van, I do not know? That was a lie! The other cop that was parked illegally, also did not see me inching forward to check for oncoming traffic?? Also, I did not appreciate the abuse of power. I believe that cops should lead by proper examples. Even though a cop is on duty, they should not abuse the fact that they are in an occupation of law enforcement, the fact that they have a badge, and furthermore, a gun. Therefore, if possible, and to provide the safest driving environment, a cop should not park on the wrong side of the road. It may confuse drivers, going in the right direction, and the reflectors on the back of the car are not being shown, because drivers will see the headlights... or not. Asbury park police, or at least the two I encountered, should be ashamed of themselves.I wonder what other lies they have told and laws they may have broken on account of their privileged status?
